The calendar of free Sundays at museums

On the first Sunday of every month, Florence opens the doors to its most precious artistic heritage with the initiative “Sunday at the Museum”, offering free admission to the city’s state museums, with a rich calendar of events.

A long-awaited event for residents, families, and travelers alike, which in 2026 will take place on the following dates: Sunday, January 4; February 1; March 1; April 5; May 3; June 7; July 5; August 2; September 6; October 4; November 1; and December 6.

On these days, in addition to free access to permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, many museums host a special program of cultural activities, including themed guided tours, workshops for children and families, in-depth talks, concerts, and lectures, designed to make the experience more engaging and accessible to a wide audience.

Museums thus become not only places of preservation, but living spaces for dialogue, learning, and discovery.

Promoted by the Ministero della Cultura, the initiative offers a valuable opportunity to explore the history, art, and identity of Florence without barriers, rediscovering both iconic masterpieces and lesser-known treasures.

An invitation to slow down, observe, and be guided by beauty, marking these free Sundays in your calendar as shared moments of culture in the very heart of the city.
