Christmas markets in Florence

Christmas markets are an ancient tradition that started in Germany, but Florence too has been following it for years throughout December.

In many squares of the city, each market offers a magical atmosphere made up of twinkling lights and Christmas songs.

The Christmas Market in Piazza Santa Croce

The largest market in Florence is certainly the one held in Piazza Santa Croce, which has delighted visitors for over 20 years.

This year, the event will be held from November 18 to December 17, 2023, from 10 am to 10 pm, while during the weekend, the closing time is 11 pm.

The wooden houses, carefully decorated, will host a vast selection of artisan products from different parts of Europe. You can find splendid hand-painted ceramic objects, expertly crafted nativity scenes, and unique jewelry, perfect for making special gifts.

Throughout the event, there will be music, singing, and flag-waving shows that will entertain visitors with their engaging performances. Young ones will also be able to deliver their letter to Santa Claus, making sure their wishes are heard.

There will be no shortage of culinary delights including the famous German Christmas cookies, traditional Austrian sausages, and Swiss chocolate desserts. To warm up from the winter cold, you won’t be able to resist a steaming cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate, accompanied by a slice of freshly baked apple pie.

The Fierucola dell’Immacolata

Another historic event is the Fierucola dell’Immacolata (Fair of the Immaculate Conception) for those who love artisanal and sustainable objects, as well as a point of reference for the many voluntary associations.

The Fierucola is held on December 8 in Piazza SS. Annunziata from 9 am to 7 pm.

The Fierucolina del Carmine

At the Fierucolina del Carmine (Little Carmine Fair) you will find many objects of manual craftsmanship and local life, as well as products of small-scale organic and natural agriculture.

This year the fair will be held on December 10 in Piazza del Carmine from 9 am to 2 pm.

The Fierucola di Natale

With the Fierucola di Natale (Christmas Fair) you can fully take in the Christmas spirit. This year’s event is set for Sunday, December 17 from 9 am to 7 pm in Piazza Ognissanti.

Nataleperfile

Nataleperfile is the Christmas market organized to raise funds for solidarity activities to assist seriously ill people and their families. Among the exhibitors, you will find clothing and accessories, design items, jewelry and bijoux, home fragrances, as well as food and wine and household objects.

This year it’s the 20th edition and will take place from Friday, December 15, to Sunday, December 17 in Palazzo Corsini along Lungarno.
