7:00 a.m. – Piazza del Duomo
From the FH55 Hotel Calzaiuoli, it takes just a few steps to reach the symbol of Florence.
In the early morning, Piazza del Duomo is surprisingly quiet. The façade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its white, green and pink marble, is illuminated by the rising sun, creating a completely different sight from the one you will experience during the busiest hours of the day.
Take a few minutes to admire the Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of San Giovanni and the majestic Brunelleschi’s Dome. This is one of the best times to take photographs without having to wait for the square to clear.
7:25 a.m. – Via dei Calzaiuoli
Leaving Piazza del Duomo, walk along Via dei Calzaiuoli towards Piazza della Signoria.
While the shops are still closed and the crowds have yet to arrive, this elegant shopping street reveals all its architectural beauty. Walking here in the morning allows you to notice details that can easily go unnoticed during the day.
7:40 a.m. – Piazza della Signoria
Few places tell the story of Florence better than this square.
Here you will find Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi, the Fountain of Neptune and the famous sculptures that have welcomed residents and visitors for centuries.
In the early morning, the square still retains an almost suspended atmosphere. Take a few minutes beneath the Loggia dei Lanzi to admire masterpieces such as Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini and The Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna.
8:00 a.m. – Towards the Uffizi
Walk through the Piazzale degli Uffizi without entering the museum just yet.
The long colonnade designed by Giorgio Vasari draws the eye towards the Arno River and is one of the most elegant architectural spaces in the city.
It is a short walk filled with beautiful photo opportunities and is often pleasantly uncrowded in the early hours of the day.
8:15 a.m. – Ponte Vecchio
Continue towards one of the most famous landmarks in Florence.
Before the crowds arrive, Ponte Vecchio has a truly special atmosphere. The goldsmiths’ shops slowly begin to open, the reflections of the buildings on the Arno make the view particularly picturesque, and the noise of the city still seems far away.
It is the perfect time to stop for a few minutes and admire the river, perhaps walking to the nearby Lungarno for a different perspective of the bridge.
8:40 a.m. – Return to the FH55 Hotel Calzaiuoli
After around an hour and a half of walking, it is time to take a well-deserved break.
At the FH55 Hotel Calzaiuoli, breakfast is served until 10:00 a.m., giving you plenty of time to return at a leisurely pace.
Those who prefer an even more relaxing start to the day can choose to enjoy breakfast directly in their room, taking their time before continuing the itinerary.
10:00 a.m. – The Perfect Time for Museums
After breakfast, as temperatures begin to rise, it is the ideal time to explore Florence’s great museums.
The Uffizi Gallery, around a five-minute walk from the hotel, is the perfect place to spend the hottest hours of the day surrounded by masterpieces by Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Caravaggio.
Alternatively, you can visit the Opera del Duomo Museum, Palazzo Vecchio, or climb Brunelleschi’s Dome if you have booked your admission in advance.
You really only need a few essentials for this walk:
The location of the FH55 Hotel Calzaiuoli makes this itinerary particularly easy to follow.
