New Year in Florence means fun, emotion, discovery and relaxation.
There are countless ways to experience the city as we move from one year to the next. You can choose between enjoying music in a piazza or dancing to the beat of a disco.
Those who prefer a more relaxing evening can wait until midnight and then take a pleasant stroll, taking in the peaceful and magical atmosphere of the night, letting themselves be completely enchanted by the illuminations of the city’s most famous icons.
Or go in search of more upbeat events, glamorous celebrations, unmissable concerts or parties you can’t say no to.
For the superstitious, we recommend at stop at the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. There is an equestrian monument here to Ferdinando I, on which there are sculpted bees. Legend has it that whoever manages to count all the bees with have good luck.
Another superstition is linked to the Fontana del Porcellino, in the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo. Place a coin in the pig’s mouth and let go. According to legend, if your coin falls through the underlying grate, you're in for some good luck.
